OctopusGiant Pacific Octopus

Very little is known about the Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) population. This solitary species, the largest octopus species in the world, lives in Puget Sound and coastal waters of the northern Pacific Ocean. Seattle Aquarium and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium are collaborating to study the population distribution of the Giant Pacific Octopus in Puget Sound.

Seattle Aquarium is also conducting research on Octopus endocrinology, toxicology, and population genetics. While this Octopus has no protected status, it is sensitive to water pollution and may depend on conservation efforts for its future survival.
