Species Recovery Efforts
Steller Sea Lions
Since 1980, the world’s Steller Sea Lion (Eumetopias jubatus) population has plunged from 300,000 to less than 50,000, and no one knows why.
Vancouver Aquarium, concerned about the Sea Lions and what their loss means for marine ecosystems, has teamed up with researchers at the University of British Columbia to learn what’s behind this mysterious disappearance.
Oregon Zoo also holds Steller Sea Lions and is researching methods to more
accurately determine the diet of wild sea lions from fecal samples.
