Species Recovery Efforts

Grizzly BearGrizzly Bears

Grizzly Bears (Ursus arctos) were once widespread in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountains, and California. Now there are only a few remaining populations in the continental United States, including the North Cascades ecosystem. A balanced recovery program, with the support of local communities, is essential for success.

Woodland Park Zoo is a partner with the Grizzly Bear Outreach Project, which engages diverse local people, both supporters and opponents, to understand and respect each other, Grizzly Bears, and their wilderness.
