California CondorCalifornia Condors

California Condors (Gymnogyps californianus) have returned to the Pacific Northwest. The Oregon Zoo became the fourth breeding facility for the California Condor Recovery Program in 2003. The captive-bred condors are currently released in the southwest United States. The Oregon Zoo is also working toward future reintroductions in the Pacific Northwest. The California Condor Recovery Program is one of the highest-profile and most successful endangered species recovery efforts in the United States.
